Outposts는 가상의 개념이 아니라 실제로 만질 수 있는 물리 하드웨어입니다. AWS가 관리하는 서버 랙을 트럭으로 실어와 고객의 실제 건물(데이터센터·공장)에 설치해 주는 것으로, 클라우드처럼 보이지만 진짜 철제 랙이 바닥에 놓여 있는 물리 장비입니다.

Outposts는 AWS가 관리하는 랙을 고객 시설에 직접 설치해 동일한 API로 EC2·EBS·S3를 로컬에서 쓰게 합니다. "데이터가 물리적으로 건물을 떠날 수 없다", "공장 설비와 초저지연 통신"처럼 클라우드로 옮길 수 없는 제약이 있을 때만 정답입니다.
동작 원리 / How it works
Outposts는 AWS가 조립·배송·운영하는 랙을 고객 시설에 설치하고, 해당 리전의 컨트롤 플레인에 전용 링크로 연결합니다. 그 결과 온프레미스 랙 위에서 EC2·EBS·S3 on Outposts·RDS 등을 동일한 API와 콘솔로 쓸 수 있습니다. 컨트롤 플레인은 리전에 있으므로 링크가 끊기면 신규 프로비저닝은 제한되지만 이미 뜬 워크로드는 계속 돕니다.

시험에서 Outposts는 마지막 수단입니다. 데이터가 물리적으로 시설을 떠날 수 없다거나, 로컬 설비와 밀리초 미만 통신이 필요하다는 명시적 제약이 있을 때만 정답이며, 단순한 "하이브리드"에는 과잉입니다.

Outposts is not a virtual concept — it is genuine physical hardware. AWS ships an actual server rack it manages and installs it inside the customer real building (a data center or factory floor); it looks and behaves like the cloud, but there is a real steel rack sitting on the floor.

Outposts places AWS-managed racks in your facility so EC2, EBS, and S3 run locally through the same APIs. It is only correct when data physically cannot leave the site or ultra-low latency to local equipment is required.
동작 원리 / How it works
AWS builds, ships, installs, and operates an Outposts rack in your facility, linked to the parent Region's control plane. EC2, EBS, S3 on Outposts, and RDS then run on that local rack through the same APIs and console. Because the control plane lives in the Region, losing the link limits new provisioning while existing workloads keep running.
시험은 무엇을 보는가 / What the exam is testing
Outposts is a last resort on the exam: correct only when data physically cannot leave the site or sub-millisecond links to local equipment are required. For plain "hybrid" it is over-engineering.
